Type City

Assos (Japanese: アッソス, Greek: Άσσος) is a city in Asia Minor. It is situated on the west coast of current Turkey, not far south of Troy. In the time of the Persian empire, Aristoteles stayed in Assos for a while (348 v.C. – 345 v.C.), where he also started a philosophical academy.

The control over Assos was fought over between Athene and the Persian empire, since both wanted influence over the Asian coast. King Hermias however was on good terms with Greece, and was therefore captured and interrogated by the Persians, which caused Assos to be under Persian control again.
